ProStore Automated Sheet Storage Warehouse
Multi-floor storage and picking, custom to your requirement
- How it is decided
- One or several, single or double sided, set by the tonnage and the floor
- Set by the building, the roof height and where material comes in
- Typically 8 to 13, by height available and stock held
The Automated Sheet Storage Warehouse is the high-capacity end of automated sheet storage. Sheet is held across multiple floors, picked automatically and presented at the outfeed, ready to load out or move on. Merchants and distributors run it for the storage and picking alone. Where there is a cutting machine it can be integrated with a gantry so the warehouse feeds the laser, plasma or punch directly and takes the finished parts away.
Key features
Material selected at the control screen
The operator enters the grade and thickness required and the system retrieves that sheet to the outfeed station. Retrieval is automatic, so no forklift or crane movement is needed to locate or extract material, and stock does not have to be searched.
Multi-floor storage capacity
Sheet is held on multiple floors within a single tower footprint. A distributor can carry the full range in one location with an accurate count against each floor. A fabricator can hold every grade and thickness in use without waiting on delivery.
Layout designed to the building
Tower position, orientation, gantry reach and the position of infeed and outfeed are all set during design. Roof height, floor area, existing machine positions and material flow determine the arrangement.
Optional cutting machine integration
A gantry can be specified to load a laser, plasma or punching machine from the tower and return finished parts to a trolley. Integration is optional and can be added after installation without replacing the storage system.
Expandable in stages
The tower operates as a storage and picking system from commissioning, loaded by forklift or crane. Gantry loading and automated unloading can be added later as throughput increases.
Less handling, faster retrieval
Automated retrieval removes most sheet handling by forklift and crane. Material is not lifted, dragged or restacked to reach what is underneath, so a sheet is available in the time it takes the tower to bring it down rather than the time it takes to clear the stack above it.
Material stored off the floor
Sheet held in the tower is sheet not stacked on the workshop floor. That removes trip hazards, stops offcuts and round material rolling, and means nobody works beneath a suspended load to reach stock.
Warehouse management software: WMS and WCS
Every item is barcoded and tracked by storage location. The warehouse management system (WMS) holds specification, quantity and date received against each position, plans inbound and outbound movements, runs scheduled or manual stocktakes and reports by grade, date or customer. The warehouse control system (WCS) schedules the equipment and logs faults and status. Handheld terminals cover manual picking. The WMS connects to ERP, MES or MOM so stock figures are shared rather than reconciled.

| What varies | How it is decided |
| Storage towers | One or several, single or double sided, set by the tonnage and the floor |
| Tower position and orientation | Set by the building, the roof height and where material comes in |
| Floors per tower | Typically 8 to 13, by height available and stock held |
| Sheet sizes | 3000 x 1500 up to 6000 x 2500 mm |
| Load per layer | Typically 3 or 5 tonnes, by what you stack |
| Gantry | Single or multiple, reach and travel to suit the layout |
| Infeed and outfeed | Position set by material flow through the building |
| Machines served | Laser, plasma, punch, more than one, or none at all |
| Control | PLC with touch screen throughout |
There is no standard build. Tower count and orientation, gantry reach, where material comes in and where it goes out are all decided by the building, the output and what the system has to feed. The figures above are the ranges we work within, not a specification. Send us your floor plan, your sheet sizes and your throughput and we will lay out a system around them.
Specifications are indicative and subject to change by the manufacturer without notice. Please confirm any figure critical to your application before ordering.
